![]() The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, Rejected our Jewish brothers and sisters, You love and cherish all whom you have created That God will grant us grace to be faithful to his covenant and to grow in the love of his name. Let us pray for God’s ancient people, the Jews, the first to hear his word -įor greater understanding between Christian and Jewįor the removal of our blindness and bitterness of heart To be a hope for the future, we must continually visit the past,ĭo not let us permit the images fade from our mind as we leave today. Genocide continues today: we think of Rwanda or Darfur. We cannot rest nor cease in prayer for peace. We are visiting the past to protect the future. A long history of Christian anti-Semitism that fed into numerous persecutions of the Jews, up to and including the Holocaust/Shoah, has also been acknowledged. One of the most painful realities for European Christians to deal with is the past complicity of many Christians and churches in the Nazis' attempt to exterminate the Jewish people. This Day remembers the suffering of the Holocaust/Shoah and other Holocausts such as those in Cambodia and Rwanda. In 2002 the United Kingdom government set up an annual Holocaust Memorial Day. Let our memory of this horror be all that is left of this evil.Prayers and Resources for Holocaust Memorial Day Holocaust Memorial Day 27 January Lest we forget Let no new hatred inspire one more holocaust. Let no new potentate or their minions threaten annihilation. On this day, which we set aside to remember, may we find in the telling of our stories to each other a source of inspiration that leads to hope, to healing, and to an acceptance of the beauty inherent in every child your hand fashions and your breath animates. May we discover in our love for each other the capacity not just to endure this horror but to eradicate it. May we who bear the responsibility to remember never forget what we discovered we are capable of. We cannot, we will not forget, the evil and horror visited upon the Jewish people during the season of the Holocaust. ![]() O God of all, who knows not the temptation to value a human being created in your image differently because of race, creed, gender identity, or status, we cry out to you and ask for your healing touch. We do so both as a contribution to the healing touch we all need, and as a way to never forget. On this, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we lift up in prayer an Earth and a human community still healing from the horror of those years and that abhorrent evil.
